Brightening-Up from the Inside-Out

I hid in the darkness of winter. Kept safe in a warm cave, protected by loving friends and family.

The days then became brighter. I could no longer hide. Not only did increased daylight make it more difficult to camouflage myself and blend in, but I'm just not one to stay behind the scenes long. I love to stretch and stand tall.

Therefore, I told myself, "Look to Summer Solstice. Your destiny will be provided then."

While waiting, I thrived looking east towards the foothills and sunrise. Sunlight, warmth, hope... yearning for guidance and direction.

What came to me on Summer Solstice? Well, not exactly an earth-shattering call to greatness... Except. Hmmm? You tell me.

On June 21st, I enjoyed my first 15-mile trek on my new bicycle. I not only successfully made the distance, but climbed the hills with steady determination. I also thoroughly enjoyed laughing and chatting with a dear friend, while sweating my lil' heart out. Afterwards, my body didn't hurt. Afterwards, I felt a peaceful calm accomplishment. Afterwards, I slept so damn well.

I woke up the following morning and was content with who I am and my new found voice that is getting stronger and clearer.

And then I read Lynn Jericho's Summer Solstice meditation. As part of it, she reminds readers that John the Baptist's birthday is celebrated at this time of year:
... John dwells in the wilderness and cries out with a voice that is heard throughout the cosmos. He is crying out for something he cannot name until he meets it. The power of his cry is not his despair, but his confidence. He knows the turning point is coming.
In the mood of a voice crying in the wilderness, your voice, think/recollect your moments of greatest despair rising up in your throat lifted by an underlying, equally great, but not nameable confidence.
Have a moment today to feel the deep confidence that another of your turning points is near at hand...
And, today I think, "How uncanny it is that Summer Solstice and the 4th of July is so close together." My youngest told me about Katy Perry's "Fireworks":
... If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightening bolt your heart will blow
And when it's time you'll know
You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine...
I'm loving that song right now.... simply loving it as I continue to gain strength and aim for the stars.
