Takes me back & moves me forward.

Last week I was caught by surprise. I noticed that my 9 year-old rabbit wasn't feeling well, so I made an appointment with our veterinarian. Some thought that I was crazy. Oh well.
So! Took Billy Bob Bunny to the vet. He could not believe how old he is, "Did you know that rabbits only live for about 5 years?"
"I thought that he was getting up there, but...."
"I can't believe that his teeth are intact. His teeth are so sharp! I can't believe what good condition his coat is in. Does he stay inside?"
"No. He's out near the chicken coop...."
The bottom line... Billy Bob Bunny is diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Our veterinarian lists the costs. I nod my head, "I'll talk to my husband."
You have to understand, I consider myself a farm girl. Animals come and go. Animals die. That's a fact of life. There are more animals to love and take care of. That's just the way that it is.
"Gretchen, you know what we have to do...." I hear on the phone.
I just broke down and bawled. I couldn't believe it! I'm so tough, doncha' know?
"Alright. I'll call and make the arrangements after I compose myself."
Lo' and behold, a training opportunity surfaced for a veterinarian-in-training! I couldn't believe my ears. Of course, it wasn't guaranteed that Billy Bob would make it, but it definitely was worth a try.
Billy Bob came through... albeit a tad sore for a couple of days. A week has passed, however, and he's hippity-hopping like he used to.
He's the true Easter Bunny!! How miraculous!!
Who knows how long this lil' guy will be hanging around, but he is proof that I'm not the tough lady I try to say that I am. I am thankful.
